Living in the Pioneer Days!

Last week we extended our knowledge of what a community is by dipping into a mini unit of the Pioneer Days!

We went on a fantastic field trip to Stewart Farms in South Surrey, where we got to experience life in the "Olden Days" hands-on.

Here are some photos from our day:

Happy Cinco De Mayo!!

Yesterday we celebrated Cinco de Mayo! We made and decorated masks from egg cartons and Popsicle sticks. Here is an updated class photo:

And of course, a fun, silly photo:

From our class to you, HAPPY CINCO DE MAYO!!

Every day is Earth Day!

This week we started our new unit on the Environment. What better way to kick off the new unit with a famous Dr. Seuss book: The Lorax. The Lorax is a character who speaks for the trees. He doesn't want anyone or anything breaking down the beautiful colours and clean air in our environment. Throughout the book, we see bright colours turn into black, white, and grey because of all the pollution and knocking down of trees. It gave a great visual for the children to really understand what could happen if we acted this same way on our earth today.

Here is a picture of our classroom door:

One of our favourite Art lessons-- Directed Drawings. If you get a chance to come visit, please stop by our classroom window and see how wonderful and unique our Lorax drawings are!

With our continued discussions on what we can do to help our earth and "go green" we have done a lot of brainstorming. Here are just a few Lorax examples:

As a class and individual in our classroom community, we want to make a difference in this world, one day at a time. We discussed if we had the "whole world in our hands" what would we do. Some of us thought literally and others thought metaphorically. Here is our bulletin board display. Please feel free to come visit and browse through our different ideas and plans!

From our classroom to you, we can all make a difference!

Don't forget, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! :)

And to finish with our favourite Lorax quote:

Have a wonderful rest of your weekend!

Love,

Fraser Downs Racetrack

Today we extended our community unit and learned all about the different jobs to care for a race horse. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful place in our own neighbourhood. Thanks to Fraser Downs for showing us around and teaching us how to care for and prepare a horse for its big race.

Here are a few photos of our adventure:

Thanks again Fraser Downs! We had a blast!!
