Merry Christmas!

Our last day of school started off with some relaxing yoga (in our pyjamas):

Then, we watched The Polar Express and drank hot chocolate! 

We also participated in a school-wide Christmas sing-a-long and said our Goodbye's to our Vice Principal. He loves Star Wars so he was happy to see a few of our students in their gear! 

We will miss you Mr. S!

Christmas Around The World Musical

This year our Christmas Musical's theme was "Christmas Around The World". Our country that we represented was Denmark.

Gingerbread Houses

Another busy but FUN day today!

We made gingerbread houses (many for the first time). Thanks to all the parent volunteers for all your help this morning! The kids had a great morning and continued to have smiles on their faces all day! :)

Skating in our Community

Today, we went to another place in our community: the Ice Arena. Wow-- we had quite a few students that could skate fast (forwards and backwards). Even our students that were learning for the first time did an outstanding job! Here are a few pictures of our class in action:

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

This week we read one of our favourite Dr. Seuss books: How The Grinch Stole Christmas. Inspired, we participated in a directed drawing with Ms. Brown, where we drew our very own Grinch. 

(Yes, Ms. Brown actually drew that!)

We started with pencil and then a sharpie/fine-liner. 

Next, we used water colour to give him some colour.  Here is a picture of our class Grinches:

Please feel free to come take a closer look at each one! We are all proud of our Dr. Seuss character. 

The best part of directed drawing is how every Grinch is unique in its own way!

Where is Hidey?

As we have been busy travelling the world, we promise we haven't forgot about our friend, Hidey. 

What does Hidey do?

(Although, this day he scared us, as he jumped off the telephone onto the ground! Terrified that he was going to lose his magic, our principal saved the day by letting us borrow her special spray.)

Pancake Breakfast!

Look who made a guest appearance at our school-wide Pancake breakfast! 

Christmas in Germany!

Frohliche Weihnachten!

(This means “Merry Christmas” in German—the language people speak in Germany!) 

Germans are known for their beautiful gingerbread houses and gingerbread people. Today we made gingerbread cookies and read 'The Gingerbread Man'. Just as Ms. V. finished reading the last page, a note from the Gingerbread Men fell out. When we looked over at our pans of little men, we noticed that our two big Gingerbread men were missing! So, we followed the clues, which led us around the school (to the library, office, staff room, washroom, and into our very own classroom!). He was playing games with us because he definitely wasn't sitting at our Rainbow table when we left on our adventure! 

We discussed a few different Christmas traditions. In Germany, Advent Calendars and Advent Wreaths are an important tradition. The Advent wreath has 4 red candles. One is lit each Sunday leading up to Christmas. 

A huge Christmas market called “Christkindlmarkt” is a place where people go to shop for food and gifts during Christmas. 

Children leave notes on their windowsills for an angel, Christkind. They add glue and sugar to their letters to make them sparkle in the windows. Christkind and “The Christmas Man” (Santa) leave gifts. We made our own Angels and added glue and glitter to make them really sparkle in our windows!
